Ryan Family Update

Troy is in his 3rd quarter (12 total) of Chiropractic College and truly enjoys everything about it.
His favorite class is gross anatomy and being able to hold a human heart, brain, lungs and every other part you can image!

I am doing keeping busy with the boys, yardwork, taking care of my grandfather one night a week, spending time at Grandma & Papa's house, couponing, preschool and any other hobby or project I can find time for or not ;) I am currently reading The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease.

We are renting a wonderful little 3 bedroom house with a full backyard, garden and front yard. We are very happy with our little home and plan to be here until Troy graduates. Pierson will be 1 year in July and Linken 3 in October. Pierson just adores his big brother! So that's what has been going on with the Ryan family...

Troy is amazing and rides his bike to school every day RAIN or shine! This is his excitement when we finally got all the accessories he needed to stay dry. Pants, jacket and the highlight: Booties! My aunt and uncle has a fantastic egg hunt at their house for about 50 kids! It was so much fun and Linken was lucky enough to find a "golden egg." This was his prize. He was thrilled (despite the look on his face in the picture) and couldn't wait to eat it!

My hometown puts on an annual egg hunt and we love participating. My bestfriend since 4th grade lives here too and now our kids are the best of friends! Linken gets so excited when we all get together.

Learning Time

Thanks to Confessions of a Homeschooler (love love love this blog) I have been inspired to do a homeschool preschool with Linken. We have doing this for a couple months now and we both just LOVE it! I also have a little boy Linken's age who comes over during the week for "school." After Pierson was born Linken was out of his mind BORED and needed stimulation. I started with Oopsey-Daisy and her creative play and themed activities. Then we have so much fun that I started searching for more resources. I found several great blogs and we have been having so much fun. Tots Trays, Power Points by 1+1+1=1, Preschool Packets by HomeschoolCreations and that has just been a start....

Happy Holidays

It's has been sometime now since I made my last post. We are fortunate to be going to Arizona next week to celebrate Christmas with Troy's family. This morning we had an early Christmas with my family. Some other fun Christmas activities we have done include building a gingerbread train (Linken kept eating the candy), Holiday playdates with ornament and cookie decorating and Pierson had a huge blow out diaper at the playdate and ended up naked :)

Pierson is now 5 months and Linken is 26 months. Troy is a full-time student at the chiropractic college and I am filling my time with the boys, being a krazycouponlady, and Mommy School.
We are loving our crazy hectic life and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

2 Months

Pierson is now 2 months old. We love having another little one and Linken is a wonderful big brother! Troy starts school in 2 weeks and is excited to be a student again. I am still learning the life of 2 kids but love every minute of it and motherhood.

Evans 2010 Family Reunion

The last week in July we were lucky to be able to attend the Evans family reunion in Bend. We had a great time and Linken had tons of fun with so many people to play with and so many things to do. Pierson slept through the whole thing but what can you say when you are only 10 days old...

Pierson had professional newborn pics taken by my cousin Jami while at the reunion and I will post those once they have been edited. But for now this is how Pierson spent his time at the reunion ;) Thank you Aunties!

Drop Top 10k

Troy ran his first 10k over the weekend! He had a great run and a wonderful experience. It was a beautiful day and Linken and I were there to cheer him on. Linken even made a special shirt to show his support :) After the race we went over to my parents and spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the sprinklers, sandbox and enjoying the 86 degree weather. Linken loved spending the entire day outside. What a great day!

Big Boy Bed

This week Linken got his first "big boy bed." He loves it and his Disney Cars bedding! We are trying to transition him from a crib to to toddler bed before the baby comes. We are using Super Nanny's "Stay in Bed Technique" for a guideline on the adjustment but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Goonies Never Say Die

Troy and I were able to spend this past weekend in Astoria to celebrate our soon-to-be 3 year anniversary. The baby is expected to come the same week as our anniverary next month so we decided to celebrate a little early and my parents were more than happy to watch Linken for us. The 25th anniverary of the movie Goonies was also happening in Astoria so we took advantage of all the fun events and celebration.

Few things we did: Fort Clatsop, Trolley Ride, Watched Goonies on big screen at movie theater, Tour bus of Goonies film locations, Astoria Farmer's Market, Climbed the Astoria Column, Ecola State Park, Romantic dinner for two in our own private booth and relaxed at a Victorian Bed & Breakfast

Raining Days

We spend a lot of time at my parent's house and Linken absolutely loves going to Grandma and Grandpa's. He gets completely spoiled at their house with popsicles, playtime in the dirt and the very latest a new play structure...who doesn't love going to play at Grandma and Grandpa's house?

Sorry no pics this post just a family update...

Linken is now 18 months and growing so fast. His little mind is a sponge soaking up everything and anything. I am always looking for new ways to keep him busy and entertained. His new favorite thing is a plastic blue stool that he carries around everywhere with him turning lights on and off and getting into anything he can. He starts his first "Tumbling Tots" class this coming Monday. It is a 4 week course and he gets to play on gymnastic equipment, trampolines and play with other children.

I am taking a Vegetarian Beans and Grains Cooking class in May. I am trying to learn more about cooking with veggies, beans, tofu and vegan dishes. So any good recipes send them my way. I am 27 weeks prego and we are struggling with coming up with a boy name. Good thing we have 3 more months.

Troy is still working full-time until October. He will be starting an online course next week to complete his prerequisites for school. We recently went to the University for an orientation and catered lunch. It was nice to learn about the school, take a campus tour and spend some grown-up time together (thanks grandma for watching Linken).

So that's what is going on in the Ryan house this month :)

We have a 2 bedroom 1 bath apartment and were so very blessed to have the majority of our furnishing generously donated to us by church members and family. We are still working on decorating as you will see by the plethora of empty white walls. Hope you enjoy this little tour.

Elmo's World

Linken's new favorite thing is Elmo. It all started one day after Toddler Storytime. We were wondering around the library picking out some books and passed the dvd section. I saw an Elmo's World dvd and thought hey let's give it a try...He LOVES Elmo and wants to watch Elmo every day. We now have Tickle Me Elmo, Elmo books, sticker books and coloring books. Our house has truly become Elmo's World.
Besides life with Elmo: Troy finished his prerequisites last week for chiropractic college and will begin at UWS in October. So until then he is working full-time and it is so nice to have him home in the evenings.Linken and I are adjusting to days without a car and we took our first trip to Walmart last week on the bus. Linken loves buses and every time we pass one he yells out "BUS!" Linken is just about 18 months and we are having so much fun with him at the age. We also found out that he will be getting a little brother to wrestle with in July! YaY another boy for us.

Three months have past since I last posted and so much has happened in the Ryan house. (YiKes for slacking on the postings and pics of my little one) First of all, the holidays were amazing and we were blessed to have spent them with family. Troy's mom came for a week visit in December and my sister, niece and brother-in-law came for Christmas. On Friday night our church ward had a Halloween party. There was tons of games, food and we made a cake for the cake walk (see below). Linken had a great time and even better time trick-or-treating on Halloween. At first he wasn't sure about the whole going up to stranger and accepting treats but he soon caught on and would grab for the candy himself sometimes taking two handfuls and then would turn and run...haha The neighbors loved his costume and said he was the littlest trick-or-treator out. The funniest part was that he is dressed like Chewbaca but walked like an Ewok. We all had a blast!

Troy and I had some fun carving pumpkins for our Family Home Evening. It sure took us a while to carve our pumpkins but we enjoyed the challenge and it had been years since either of us had carved a pumpkin. A dear friend, Amanda Gunter, past away this weekend. Amanda was 5 months pregnant when she passed on Friday and she leaves behind a husband and a beautiful little girl. I have not found the words adequate enough to share with you all about this amazing woman. However, Sarah has a beautiful post about Amanda on her blog and I would strongly urge you all to read it. We mourn the loss of our dear friend but are comforted by the knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and know that she will be reunited with her husband and sweet baby girl one day.

Amanda, thank you for being my friend and touching the lives of my family. We love you and you will not be forgotten.

Levin and Ansley, you are in our hearts and prayers.

Never a Dull Moment

Linken started walking last week!! He will go from person to person or to and from the couch so we are not 100% mobile on foot but super close. I'm working on getting a good video of him walking and will post it once I get it.

Trip to Monterey,CA

Linken, Troy, my dad and I took a little (12 hour) road trip to visit my sister and her family. Linken was a great traveler and didn't have any problems, thanks to Baby Einstein and a portable dvd player. Here are some of the fun things we did; Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Ghiradelli Chocolate Ice Cream Parlor, Fisherman's Wharf, saw tons of harbor seals and giant jellyfish in the bay, Big Sur, Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, yummy food in Carmel including a trip to Lula's, celebrated my sister's bday and lots of cousin fun for Linken and Halle. We had a great time and thanks to my big sis for letting us visit!

10 months and growing...

Linken turned 10 months this month. We have a very busy on-the-go little man. He just loves being mobile and keeps us running after him. Anything he can hold onto is used as a prop to get him standing and walking around. Linken has fun pushing his little Tonka truck around the house. He has also gotten in his two front upper teeth (4 altogether now).

Bumps, Bruises and Boo Boos

Linken started crawling last Monday and has figured out how to stand up on his own. So now we are dealing with little boo boos every day from him falling and bumping his little baby head, arm, leg...you get the picture. We are so loving this phase in his life and his new found freedom. The funniest part is that he will crawl the farthest distance and longest amount of time only to chase the cat. And the best part is waking up in the morning or getting Linken up from a nap to see his face staring right back at me. It makes me laugh every time. Below is a picture of him just after he woke from a nap so excuse the hair and stylish outfit :)

4th of July Parade

Linken was in his first parade Saturday morning in celebration of the 4th of July. Troy and my mom decorated a wagon for him to ride in during the parade. He loved being in the wagon and watching the kids all around him. Later that day we went swimming at my uncles and then had a delicious bbq followed by fireworks before Linken went to bed. After he was asleep we set off the rest of our fireworks with the company of my family and neighbors. Hope you all had a fun and safe 4th of July.

Within the past 2 days we have found out that Linken will be getting 2 new cousins. My sister is pregnant with her second child and Troy's brother and wife, Greg and Michelle, are having their first baby! Both are only a few weeks prego so looks like March/April will be a busy month.

My dad's bday was the day after Father's Day. We celebrated by going to the Sykart Indoor Racing Center and then my parents went to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. After dinner they brought home cheesecake so we could sing and open presents.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all you special mothers and soon-to-be mothers!

Some time has past since my last entry so let me give an update.

Linken:
Linken is 31 weeks old (7 months). He weights 16lbs and is growing and developing like a weed! This week he has learned to sit up on his own and roll over. All the poor guy needed was a little extra food. Thank you Liza for your "special mix" because Linken is now able to have a full tummy. He is so much stronger and is filling out. (posting new pics soon)

Troy:
Troy currently has a full-time job that uses both his degree and bi-lingual skills. We are so blessed for him to have a full-time job in this economy. Troy is also in the hiring process with The United States Homeland Security. He has been given a conditional job offer pending a background check, physical exam and fitness test. He will recieve an official offer once he has passed those requirements (within a month or two, hopefully) and head off to the academy for 2.5 months then they will station him somewhere on the southern border. Once a location is established and housing is found, Linken and I will join him in our new home.

Me:
I have finally worked off all the baby weight! Huge success for me. However, my clothes still do not fit like they did before being prego so I still have a lot of work to do... But for now I can celebrate. I spend my days with Linken and am looking for hobbies during my down time. I just finished reading the Twilght saga and enjoyed every minute of each book. I am lucky to have a supportive husband who puts Linken to bed for me twice a week so I can lap swim with my old high school BFF. She also has kids, one boy (12 months) and one girl (3 yr), and they join Linken and I at the pool on Saturdays and visit with during the week. Linken and I also still go to Baby Storytime each week. I have kept to my vegan, organic, no refined sugar lifestyle and am feeling great. I am truly blessed to have a wonderful husband, beautiful son and am the happiest I've ever been in my life.

Choking Hazard

How come I was unaware of an easily accessible choking hazard? I was changing my clothes while Linken laid on my bed and all of a sudden I hear him gagging. I turned around and he has a mouth full of sock. He loves his socks and every opportunity he gets he pulls them off and tries to eat them. Linken now has his socks removed for each nap.

Suggestions needed

Linken went to Wednesday to the doctor for his 6 month check-up and shots. Good news is that he is a healthy and very happy baby. Bad news is that he has lost weight since his 4 month check up. In February he was 13lbs 6oz and 24 5/8 inches long. He is now 12lbs 14oz and 26 inches long. He nurses 6 times/day (3-3.5 hour schedule) and has rice cereal 2 times/day and veggie or fruit puree once a day. He has 2 wet diapers per feeding and empties both breasts at each feeding.

In February, I completely changed my eating habits. I became a vegan (no animal products including dairy and eggs) eliminated all refined sugars and eat organic foods. I take a vitamin B12 and multi-vitamin supplement. I am eating over 2000 calories/day. I have lost 15lbs but it seems that Linken is losing weight as well. The doctor says that my new lifestyle is healthy and good for both Linken and I but may have lowered the caloric value of my milk because I am not consuming animal fat.

Linken sees the doctor again on the 29th of this month to check his weight again. If he hasn't gained any weight or has lost more weight then the doctor will do some blood tests and other tests just to make sure we haven't missed anything.

Does anyone know any other vegan or vegetarian mothers?
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Linken is 25 weeks old now. We took him swimming for the first time on Saturday. Troy was excited to take him swimming and picked out these swim trunks from Gymboree. Linken loves to play with his feet and put his toes in his mouth. He is becoming more alert of his surroundings every day. He is so much fun!

Linken has started eating brown rice cereal, veggies and fruits. He loves the rice cereal but is not so sure about carrots. He is 5 1/2 months now and getting bigger every day!

Oregon Zoo

On Tuesday, Troy's mom came to visit us in Oregon. We took Linken to the zoo for his first time. It was 38 degrees out and there was even some snow on the ground. This is us in the petting zoo riding a wooden horse while the sheep behind us were getting sheared.

Trip to Monterey

Linken and I went to Monterey, California to visit my sister and her family. Linken got to play with his cousin Halle and enjoyed many special moments with her. He loved playing with all her toys and we even had to go out and buy him his very own glow worm. I'm sorry to say that I didn't take many pictures and the ones that I did turned out bad.

4 Month Shots

Linken had his 4 month check-up on February 13. He got his second round of immunization shots and was very brave. He cried out when the nurse gave him the shot but was happy again soon after. She gave him little green snoopy band aids to put over his battle wounds. Overall, Linken is healthy, happy and his development is on track.

Linken has been working hard this past week on reaching for things. He has learned how to reach, grab and put things in his mouth. He is also trying to roll over but he still has some work to do. He goes in next Friday for his well baby exam and 2nd round immunization shots. We are thinking of trying some rice cereal soon. But for now it's all mommy's milk.

Linken laughed continuously this week for his first time. He has given a chuckle here or there but he was giving belly laughs one after the other. He also started to grab things with his hands this week. He does not have full control over them and grabs anything his hand touches. Last night after his bath his little hand wondered down to his little wee wee and of course, he squeezed. He let out the loudest yelp and then began to cry. I had to pry his hand open to get him to let go...haha poor little guy.

Adjusting to Oregon weather

Linken bundles up for our jogs outside in the cold Oregon weather. We can't find any gloves that are small enough for his little hands so we improvise with socks :)

Storytime

Linken and I have started going weekly to Baby Storytime at the local library. We sing songs, read stories and play with other children. Today Linken finally cracked a smile for the facilitator when she came over to him with a mouse hand puppet. We have a lot of fun!

BYU Hawaii Graduation

Troy and I graduated from Brigham Young University Hawaii on December 13, 2008 with a degree in International Business Management. We were privileged to have had our families join us for the special occasion. We are currently living in Oregon waiting for Troy to get accepted into graduate school for a Masters in Business Administration. We will miss all of our friends and cherish the time we have spent in Hawaii. Thank you all for your love and friendship. Please keep in contact with us!

Linken had his one month check up this week. He has gained almost three pounds and is now 9 pounds 2 ounces. He is getting bigger everyday.

Linken Troy Ryan joined our family on October 6, 2008 at 8:30am. He weighs 6 pounds 6 ounces and is 19 inches tall. He has blue eyes and strawberry blonde hair. We are so excited to be new parents and happy to finally have Linken in our arms.
